South Lake Tahoe is located on the picturesque South Shore. As an incorporated community in the Lake Tahoe Basin, the city takes great pride in being a central hub of one the country's most popular tourism destinations. Nothing can diminish first impressions driving to Lake Tahoe and seeing this giant pool of indigo-blue water cradled between mountain ranges. Even Mark Twain wrote about his experience in Lake Tahoe as "the most unique setting in the world.". Lake Tahoe is the North American Continent's largest Alpine lake and its 22 miles long, 12 miles wide and covers a surface are of 191.6 Square miles and has 72 miles of shoreline. Vacation rentals, gaming and sports are the focal point in this community.
