Auburn is located 30 miles east of Sacramento and is known as “The Endurance capitol of the World.” The reason for this is because of the 100 mile races between Auburn and Lake Tahoe either by horse and riders and or runners. Historic Auburn’s Gold Rush heritage is reflected in the Auburn Wild West Stampede.
Outdoor recreation is a hallmark of Auburn with the Auburn State Recreation Area and the American River Canyon which offers horseback riding trails, trail hiking and guided nature trail hikes. While water rafting and kayaking, lake boating, river and lake fishing, mountain biking, and camping are easily accessible. Auburn is also the doorway to the Sierra Nevada foothills which offer skiing, hiking, camping and other outdoor activities.
Homes range from Victorians to modern subdivision as well as upscale custom home sites. There are many rural areas and it is not uncommon to see happy California cows grazing and horses ranging, here.
Elementary and Middle school communities in Auburn attend Auburn Union Elementary and the high school is Placer Union High.
